Ernst Barlach in Dresden
Until January 20, 2021 the Albertinum in Dresden is staging the exhibition
Ernst Barlach zum 150. Geburtstag (Ernst Barlach on the 150th Anniversary of his Birth)
Without a doubt, Ernst Barlach (1870-1938) enjoys a popularity matched by few other 20th-century artists in Germany. His importance as a sculptor is due primarily to his wood sculptures. At the same time, however, this versatile artist also worked in various other media: as well as producing drawings and prints, Barlach was the author of numerous plays and prose works, and an expressive letter writer.
The exhibition, which is a joint project with the Ernst Barlach Haus - Hermann F. Reemtsma Foundation Hamburg in association with the Ernst Barlach Foundation Güstrow, focuses particularly on Barlach’s sketchbooks, drawings and wood sculptures, whilst also highlighting all the other facets of his extensive oeuvre.
