About the work
We see an array of rhythmic fields, a gliding and leaping between carefully gradated blue hues. Nothing figurative is represented here, but rather memories of the once seen. Thus we can discern the outlines of arable fields, cactuses and grass in his garden. Heinz Mack is well aware that parallels to the forms of nature can often be found in his work, which he attributes to his deep admiration and fascination for nature – which he has no wish to suppress. “Nature is not my enemy,” explains the artist. In terms of colour and form, many of his works are set within nature itself, and frequently reference his own Ibizan environment. Heinz Mack has been living and working on the island of Ibiza for the past 25 years, and it is the Mediterranean light of Ibiza which infuses everything with a shimmering iridescence.
