About the work
Vorbei (Over) – the painting titles of this series of works from the oeuvre of Vera Leutloff already signalise movement and dynamics, a passing by that evokes memories of that seen and experienced. The composition of slender, horizontal stripes arranged on top of one another, which in some cases pass through the entire painting but sometimes start from the right and left with distinct colours, meeting at the centre of the painting and permeating into one another with open brush textures, also suggest acceleration and an energetic current. One is reminded of photographs of the trails of light of passing cars in the night exposed over an extended period.
Vorbei: Elbe (Over: Elbe) – a medium-sized square from 2012 in captivating colourfulness – may be capable, in the interaction of the many shades from the blue spectrum with the evocative painting title, of evoking associations with the Elbe River flowing by. This painting too thus oscillates between non-representationalism and representational association, between pure painting and subtle echoes of natural phenomena.
