Paintings, watercolors and sculptures from the 20th and 21st centuries
In our Autumn 2023 exhibition we show high-quality paintings, watercolours and sculptures of the 20th and 21st centuries. Represented are Otto Modersohn and Fritz Overbeck as landscape painters of the Worpswede artist colony, the Brücke Expressionists – Erich Heckel, Ernst Ludwig Kirchner and Karl Schmidt-Rottluff – with brilliantly colourful works, Lyonel Feininger with a delicately hued watercolour from his late work as well as the adoptive Sylt resident Siegward Sprotte with abstracted sea views and a luxuriant floral still life. Rupprecht Geiger, Karl Otto Götz, Heinz Mack, Bernard Schultze, Heinrich Siepmann and Fred Thieler complete the selection with outstanding works on canvas and paper in a non-representational language of form. Also to be seen are sculptures by Ernst Barlach, the most important Expressionist sculptor of the interwar era, as well as spectacular Implosions by Ewerdt Hilgemann, created with the help of a vacuum pump.

Gallery NEHER presents you art of classical modernism (here especially the German expressionism and the painters of the "Brücke" and the "Blauer Reiter"), "Art after ´45" and to a limited extent contemporary "New Tendencies".
For the "real enjoyment of art", direct observation of the original is essential. You can experience the charisma of a painting or a sculpture "live" with your eyes and heart at Gallery NEHER .
Exhibitions in the gallery rooms are documented by in-house catalogs and brochures with all the information from proven experts for those interested in art. Feel warmly welcome to exhibitions at Gallery NEHER in Essen.
The extensive stock of pictures, supplemented by works from more or less permanent collaboration with artists, estates or private collectors, are carefully selected and presented in-house for each exhibition.
Independent from current exhibitions, Gallery NEHER is happy to assist you in your search for the "right work". A selection of works will be made together with you from the extensive inventory and compiled for your visit on site.
All works for sale from exhibitions can be viewed during opening hours or by appointment.
Upon request private collectors, companies and public institutions will be personally assisted and advised by Christa and Otmar Neher in questions of research, purchase and sale, as well as conservation, restoration and framing of works of art.
