About the work
The beautiful "Feel of Morning" composition from 1952 demonstrates that Feininger had lost none of his creative energy in his late work. In the reduced colour palette of grey and blue, the artist presents a building silhouette in front of a both delicate and intense blue morning sky. With fine pen strokes, Feininger creates a row of buildings in the grey foreground, the closed nature of which is immediately suspended again by the lightness of the lines. These lines also continue in the zone of the sky. However, the attractiveness of the sheet is primarily enhanced by the nearly romantic mood of this balanced composition.
