About the work

Karl Otto Götz was 78 years old when he fashioned this horizontal composition entitled Ilmir II: a detailed gouache, painted rapidly in the Informel style, and executed in black and yellow over a white ground.I wish to highlight in this work the furiously painted details of the Informel elements which illustrate that, despite his incipient visual impairment, Götz not only perceived the blank sheet before commencing the painting process, but was also able to paint with the same smaller brush and squeegee that he previously used for such a paper format when still in possession of his full visual faculties.
