About the work
The gouache Lilly II was created in 1992, when Karl Otto Götz was 78 years old. Executed in landscape format, measuring 39 x 47 centimeters, this work glows in the radiant colours of black, red and yellow. Its special Informel “fire” is ignited by the complex and intelligent intermeshing of brush and squeegee strokes. This painting vividly demonstrates the dictum of the Informal movement to “dissolve the classical principles of form”, as Götz once so appositely formulated it.
