About the work

This Colour Chromaticism encompasses the entire spectrum with the exception of green and violet. Light, electromagnetic radiation, is not colourless, as we presume. Guided through a prism, it is split up into its spectral colours. The seven spectral colours are red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo and violet. Heinz Mack presents “colour as light and light as colour” in his painting. The colours in his work thus no longer identify objects, but should also not be understood as pure colour values. Mack’s colours are manifestations of light. Due to the horizontal composition, the colours in this sheet appear to be layered on top of one another, whereby their individual bands are not strictly separated from one another, but instead partially overlap. Fascinating is the application of colour, through which Mack creates his colour-light cosmos. The pastel appears to be divided into two areas, the bottom half of which is defined by the grounding colour red, through an energetic orange to a spiritual yellow. Commensurate with a central horizon line, Mack composes various blue values ranging from light to dark in the upper half of the work. Here too, the statement of the work varies and fascinates, moving between the representation of the pure colour values and associations with natural phenomena.
